Team Glasgow started off their YDL season in brilliant style this past weekend, competing in the newly formed league in Sheffield.
Led by our four team captains; Andrew Costello and Emma Thompson for the Under 20 team along with Jamie Burns and Shona Crossan for the Under 17 team, Team Glasgow performed superbly for so early in the season.
Team Glasgow is a composite team in the YDL and is made up from first claim members of the 4 clubs listed below:
Victoria Park City of Glasgow AC
Giffnock North AAC, and
Any Under 20 Male from any of the above clubs can join Glasgow City AC so they can compete in the UK BAL.
Athletes must be aware that if they join Glasgow City AC, they therefore cannot compete for Team Glasgow under YDL rules. Glasgow City is not one of the clubs in Team Glasgow's composite team. Note field events use Senior equipment weight and 110m Hurdles.
Glasgow City AC kicked off the 2017 BAL season at the scene of the great escape last year, Basingstoke. Division 1 promised to be a titanic battle this time round with some of the most illustrious clubs in the country striving for supremacy. Despite the best attempts of a few good men that made the journey to compete, we finished bottom of the table, level on points with the host club. It was also close at the top with Cardiff just having the edge on compatriots, Swansea, to finish winners of the match.
On Friday 28th April 2017 the first outdoor GAA Miler Meet of the season, incorporating the Scottish National 10,000m Championships, takes place at Crownpoint Sports Complex. This has been a record entry for the 10,000m and we are looking forward to a cracking series of tightly contested races on the night. We are also hoping to have Shot Putt and Hammer events for U17/U20 athletes. Entries are still open so enter quick through the Q-Buster link below.
Gillian Black from Victoria Park City of Glasgow AC qualified for the Great Britain team at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships with her 2nd place finish in the Junior Women's race at the UK Inter Counties last weekend in Loughborough. Gillian flies out this week to compete on Sunday, 26th March in Kampala, Uganda in her first GB representation.
