Team Glasgow is a composite athletics team created by Glasgow Athletics Association to provide athletes in the Under 17 and Under 20 ranks with the opportunity to gain a greater level of competition in a wide variety of events.

The team is comprised of athletes from four clubs; Giffnock North AC, Kilbarchan AAC, Shettleston Harriers and Victoria Park City of Glasgow AC. The team, led by John Melvin, compete in the Upper Youth Development League with the aim of making the UK Final. The team travels to various locations where they compete as one of six teams in a league. Over the course of three matches, the teams amass points with the top two teams from each division reaching the UK final taking place at the end of the outdoor season.

Athletes in the team are supported by team managers, accredited officials and a team masseur to gain the full experience of travelling with an athletics team. By giving athletes this opportunity, it not only widens their experiences as a young athlete but also prepares them for future high level competitions.

Team Glasgow have been extremely successful over the last few years, reaching the UK final for the last three years and placing as high as fourth. The team has supported the development of athletes who have attained Scottish junior, Scottish senior, GB junior and GB senior vests.

Team Glasgow 2017 YDL Final

Team Glasgow History

Team Glasgow was formed in 2004 to compete in the National Junior League as a composite team.

1.  to retain  athletes in our sport and

2. to offer more appropriate competition opportunities to athletes from the Clubs that formed the composite team.   Over the last sixteen years these aims have been met successfully and the team spirit developed through the management of Team Glasgow that has satisfied the aims as originally stated.    Club athletes in Glasgow share a common purpose.   Clubs in the composite have successfully developed stronger Under 20 Sections within their Clubs.

It must never be forgotten that the social aspect of Team Glasgow strongly influences the camaraderie and competitive spirit of the Team. Athletes and Team Officials from Glasgow and surrounding areas look forward to travelling to away Matches because of the overnight stay and the opportunity to be with friends and to make new friends. For that Team Glasgow recognises the financial support given by parents in these financially challenging times.

The re formation of the National Junior League to the Youth Development League in 2014  has allowed Under 17 Athletes their specific competition opportunity and they are now an integral part of the Composite Team.
