Match 2 Liverpool 27th May 2018

Another successful day for the Team Glasgow athletes in Liverpool. We were very lucky with the weather for the most part of the day with a couple of heavy showers that the Scottish athletes are all too familiar with. Athletes performed very well in track and field and many competed in events they had never tried in order to win the team valuable points. Michael Cairns kicked off the day with a PB in his 400 hurdles followed by more personal bests from Jo Littlefield, Emily Miller, Rhian Callan and Rachel Callan. In the field events Rhea Campbell achieved a PB in her triple jump and Heather Fawcett in the discus. Jill Carswell and Morgan MacDougall both had an excellent day and both managed to gain 2 new PBs. Lewis Raeburns great performance in the 1500 also got him a PB.

A special mention goes to Emily Crusher who competed in 1500m, 400m in a PB time and 1500m steeplechase. She was a great role model and showed amazing team spirit in her willingness to win points for the team.

However the star of the day has to be Max Yvan as a result of his inspiring steeplechase race.   Max dealt with and overcame many obstacles like the barriers themselves, having to tie his shoe lace mid race and the water jump in which he attempted an Olympic dive.

Everyone’s efforts paid off greatly and the team finished in a very respectable 3rd place. In the third match we have to come top 2 to reach the final which is the Teams ultimate goal which will be possible if everyone brings their best efforts.

Well done to all athletes that competed and all officials and team managers for supporting them and making sure the event ran smoothly .
