Team Glasgow started off their YDL season in brilliant style this past weekend, competing in the newly formed league in Sheffield.
Led by our four team captains; Andrew Costello and Emma Thompson for the Under 20 team along with Jamie Burns and Shona Crossan for the Under 17 team, Team Glasgow performed superbly for so early in the season.
With new athletes coming aboard the team, all those returning made sure to welcome them to the team and show the enthusiasm and atmosphere that our team brings to the matches.
As always, we started the day successfully with Andrew throwing a personal best in the Hammer Throw, setting up the day nicely. It was evident that the team was not there to only be successful as individuals, but also as a team. Many people volunteered to cover events to get those extra points and strive for the top position in the match.
We had personal best performances from newcomers and previous team members showing the strength and depth of our team.
Coming in to the last events, the team went all out in the relays. With wins in 6 out of the 8 relays, and the other 2 placing second, it clearly demonstrates the drive to succeed as a team. At the close of play, our Team topped the leader board by over 100 points, a tremendous effort by all!
All athletes conducted themselves in a mature, professional manner whilst still enjoying themselves and balancing their studies.
The next Match takes place at the end of May, where we will be looking to once again take top points.
