On Saturday the 14th of January, the first Glasgow Endurance Session of 2012 took place at Alexandra Park.
The New Year has brought some new faces as these sessions continue to grow and grow. Fifty three athletes from all over Scotland, including Dundee, and Edinburgh travelled to Glasgow to experience the benefits these sessions provide.
The few days of frost leading up to the session cleared on the morning, providing ideal conditions on the hilly road loop. Coaches, Norrie Hay from Glasgow School of Sport, John Montgomery and Mike Johnston joined lead Coach John Mackay who oversaw the session which consisted of 6-10 repetitions of 4minute efforts with 90 seconds of recovery. Under 17 athletes completing six reps and most senior athletes running eight reps.
Amongst the top athletes in attendance was recent West District winner Lindsay Macneill alongside Louisa Stewart and Emily Stewart who both had good runs recently at the BUPA Great Edinburgh Cross Country. Almost each rep had a different leader as Thomas Fay, Lachlan Oates, Jethro Lennox amongst others pushed each other on in a productive session.
One athlete commented on the session saying “It’s great to meet up with such a large training group, everybody works hard but it really creates a fun atmosphere, I will be back for the next session!”
