Glasgow City AC qualified from the British Athletics League after a great performance in the qualifying match in Abingdon at the weekend. This is a great result for athletics in Glasgow, as it will now offer senior men in Glasgow an opportunity to compete at the highest level across the UK.
The day started in good fashion with maximum points gained by Daniel Carlin and Allan MacKay in the Discus. This set the team up nicely, and from then on; we never dropped out of the top 2. Dan and Allan continued their great form gaining maximum points for the team in the shot putt.
On the track, maximum points were gained from our Eritrea athletes Tewoldeberhan Mengisteab and Tsegezab Woldemichael who cruised to victory in the men's 5K.
Superb performances round saw Glasgow maintain 2nd place. The position was sealed before the 4x400 match allowing the team to make a dash to the airport to catch our flight home.
A special mention must go to team member Martin Hayes, Glasgow City's very own action man, who filled in various events to gain valuable points. Martin is a great team player and the team as a whole are thankful for his contribution.
Good luck to the team for 2010, where I am sure they will come out and show the rest of the clubs in the UK that Glasgow City AC mean business. For full results click on the link below
