JUMP GLASGOW 23'

On Friday the 10th of March we gathered for the GAA's newest event - "Jump Glasgow" a vertical jumps gala that puts athlete at the centre, and lets spectators to get up close to the action.

In the Jump Glasgow High Jump handicap Angus Rennie (Giffnock North) overcame his field mark of 1.70m by 4cm to take the top prize in the high jump, beating off a valiant challenge from club mate Ryan Davie who’s life time best of 1.77m took the highest male jump of the day. In the Women’s pool the inform Jenna Hilditch (Victoria Park City of Glasgow) topped the pool with 1.59m,

while Brooke McClure (Giffnock North) and Ava Anderson (Cumbernauld) cleared seasons best bars!

With specialist assistance from “Team Strange” the Pole Vault competition saw a 45% PB conversion rate (remarkable for this late stage in the indoor season). In front of an energised crowd Charis Crawford broke the 3.00m barrier for the first time (setting a new Springburn Harriers club record in the process), Edinburgh’s Eve MacCallum added 1cm to her life time best to give her a nice round 3.15m mark for her efforts. Kilmarnock duo Matthew Monachello (debutant), and Cameron McGarey cleared matching bars of 2.55m to both stake a claim for the Jump Glasgow Pole Vault trophy but it was North Ayrshire's Nathan Mobb's 3.35m clearance (a whopping 29cm PB) that sealed the victory!

With thanks to our dedicated officials, our committed coaches, our valiant volunteers and of course the athletes for supporting this event.

JUMP GLASGOW 22'

Jump Glasgow - a leap towards the future?

2022 is a year of ambition and a time for optimism.

After two years of near non-stop disruption we embarked on this project with an aim to move on from restarting or rebuilding, we felt it was time for something new!

With a date set (albeit slightly later than we’d hoped), a plan on paper and a team bubbling with enthusiasm we lifted the curtain on what we hope can bring a new style of competition in Scotland.

Fun, fast and furious the aims were clear:

• Provide a performance friendly environment to give athletes a chance to take centre

stage, develop competition skills and push performances

• Take inspiration from the European Hochsprung and Springer meets to create an event

which captures the energy and drama of the vertical jumps

• Bring the jumps community together together under one roof to celebrate the end of the indoor season and solidify the bonds of fellowship for the greater good of vertical jumps in Scotland

On the night this took shape in a handicap “battle of the bars” giving athletes the chance to take home the Jump Glasgow trophy and cash grand prize.

Did we deliver?

Well I guess the results speak for themselves. We saw 16 new life time best performances from athletes as young as 13 to seasoned senior competitors.

Getting specific, in Pool A of the high jump Jenna Hilditch (VPCOG) leaped over 1.62m (missing a new life time best of 1.66m by the tightest of margins) to top the group with Finn McCafferty (Cumbernauld) also surpassing 1.62m to claim a 2cm personal best and score high in the Jump Glasgow standings! Earlier in this pool we also saw personal bests from Millie Newall (Springburn Harriers) and Zoe Loughrey (Victoria park City of Glasgow).

Pool B saw Cameron Forbes (Edinburgh) and Ethan Dear (Giffnock) in an intense battle at the top end which pushed them to both set 1cm personal bests of 2.01m and 1.97m respectively. However, it was Daniel Martin of Giffnock North who claimed the performance of the night in the high jump when he cleared 1.72m to earn a 4cm personal best and the Jump Glasgow title!

In the Pole vault, the spirit of Jump Glasgow was encapsulated by the Glasgow Pole Vault School’s (GPVS) Under 20 women. Their comradery and passion was rewarded with Lara and Isla setting new personal bests of 2.90m while Morgan equalled her 2.90m seasons best. The vault fever must have been infectious with North Ayshire’s Lewis Vick setting an enormous 43cm PB when he cleared 2.80m, making light work of the handicap, Lewis ran away with Jump Glasgow title!

Pool B wasn’t to be out shined with GPVS’s Sara Barbour setting a life time best of 3.60m and Andrew McFarlane setting a seasons best of 4.65m to top the men's and women's pole vault marks. There was also PB’s in this pool for Felix Rousseau (Stade Lavallois athlétisme la) and Mark Hebert-Ruiz (Giffnock North) jumping 4.55m and 3.75m respectively. We were delighted to create an environment that facilitated so many PB's after what's already been a long and successful season for our vertical jumpers.

Zooming out a bit from the data, Jump Glasgow perhaps most importantly gave our jumps community the chance to come together under one banner, celebrate the success of our indoor season and the chance to remember an old friend.

As always we would like to say a big thank you to all officials, volunteers, athletes, coaches and spectators for supporting us and a special thanks to Bobby Gavin for capturing the action.

NEW YEAR BASH 2020

On Friday 3rd January, we kicked off the Roaring 20s with our annual New Year Bash.

It was a busy night of 3,000m Championship action, invitational 600m races as well as open field events and we were delighted to start the decade with so many members of our Athletics Community!

Champions were crowned on the track with James McMurray (St Albans) winning the senior men’s 3K in a time of 8:00.38 while Eloise Walker (Edinburgh) ran 9:26.13 to take the women’s title.

In the field we saw two pools of shot put, long jump and high jump with a whole host of personal best performances – 29 to be exact! Notably in the shot put, U17 women Shannon Gough (Law) and Hannah Hamilton-Meikle (Team East Lothian) threw 11.46m and 11.30m respectively to improve on their bests. While the men excelled in the jumps with Adam Hannah leaping out to 6.07m in the long jump, the first time over 6m for the young Victoria Park athlete, and with personal bests elusive for senior athletes, special shout out to Lewis McGuire (Victoria Park) who made a promising start to the new year with his 2.10m clearance in the high jump.

Thanks as always to Bobby Gavin of www.thatonemoment.co.uk for capturing a fantastic night of athletics.

Glasgow 12's Fun Day 2019

Saturday the 21st of December again saw our annual Glasgow 12’s Fun Day! Budding young athletes aged 9,10 and 11 from across the length and breadth of our great nation (‘fae Peterhead tae Chester’) descended on the Emirates Arena for a morning of singing, dancing and most importantly athletics!  With festive tunes and Santa’s helpers spreading Christmas cheer, this years event saw 93 youngsters complete an adapted pentathlon (60m, 200m, hurdles, long jump and shot put) to win themselves a stylish GAA goodie bag and selection box! We were thrilled by all the fantastic performances, endeavour and enthusiasm shown by the youngsters and like Santa Claus himself we are already prepping for next years event.

Yuletide Open Graded Meet 2019

The day was not over yet.

On the same afternoon over 200 athletes (from U13 to Veterans) came together to finish the year at our annual Yuletide Open Graded Meet.

The women’s long jump kicked off proceedings with Victoria Park City of Glasgow’s Evie Grieg winning a competition that saw no fewer than six lifetime bests. The Woman’s shot was up next and produced enormous throws from U17 athletes Paige Stevens (Falkirk) and Shannon Gough (Law) throwing 11.96m and 11.24m respectively. Undoubtedly, our female field eventers were out in storm. Later on in the day, the women’s high jump saw two very competitive pools which culminated in Rosie Sharples (Falkirk) narrowly missing a new personal best of 1.68m (winning the A competition in 1.65m).

On the track, GB combined events internationalist Andrew Murphy started his 2019/2020 campaign well with a new 60m Hurdles PB of 8.33 with the U20 Edinburgh athlete Calum Newby pushing him all the way to the line to also clock a new PB of 8.33. Inverness’s Stephen Mackay won the 800m in 1:53.61 fending off a PB performance from Lothian’s Robbie Kennedy who crossed the line in 1:56.38. However they will have to watch out with Lewis Watt (1:55.67, Aberdeen) and Gary McPake (1:57.76, Cumbernauld) lighting up the 800m B race in personal best times, we could have new contenders in 2020.

In the flat sprints there was a whole host of Personal Bests across the 30 competitive heats. In the 60m, Scott Wylie (Victoria Park City of Glasgow) clocked the fastest time of the day running 7.23 while there were strong performances from youngsters Alex Connell (Kilbarchan), Dean Patterson (Larkhall) and Bailey Gallagher (Airdrie) registering personal bests of 7.36, 7.44 and 7.45 respectively. Alex and Dean had a wonderful afternoon of athletics also registering 200m personal bests in the penultimate race of the day while Brodie Young (Airdrie) closed our annual Yuletide OGM winning in a new personal best of 22.79.

Overall the event was a resounding success and we were delighted to see so many familiar faces one last time in 2019!

Thanks for everybody's support and for joining us for festive athletics on the 21st.

For those who couldn't alas! Luckily Innes Graham was at hand to document the whole thing for us!
